COL. MATTHEW BOGDANOS: On 9/11 I was in the wreckage of the World Trade Center. I live a block from there.
I both heard it happen and saw it happen. And then experienced it. I lost my apartment on September 11th.
I was in the middle of a trial, what we call "on trial" in court, and I was walking out the door on my way to court when the crash happened. It was my four-year-old who asked about the noise, and not being at the window my first reaction was there's so much construction in downtown Manhattan. I just assumed that it was simply more construction, because as you know there's a lot.
And he then said, Daddy, what about the fire, why is there fire? And at that point I turned to walk to the window and saw the fire in the first Tower that was struck. And then unfortunately as my four-year-old was watching out the window, the second plane struck. So he saw that entire collision, saw the fire.
